I’m excited to share something new today: a just-released Soul Stroll called New Beginnings! It’s the perfect way to kickstart your year with clarity and energy.
You can catch a sneak peek of it here.
But first, I want to share a mantra that was a total game-changer for me recently.
Here’s what happened.
I was out walking with my baby when he decided it was time for his nap—by letting out a full-blown wail. We were far from home, and I knew no amount of snacks or Ms. Rachel music was going to help.
If you’ve been around crying babies (especially your own), you know how quickly that sound can send your nervous system into overdrive. It’s like your brain’s alarm system—the amygdala—screams, “Danger!” even when you’re not actually in harm’s way.
Cue the stress.
And it’s not just with babies, right? We’ve all had moments like this:
In those moments, I’ve found it hard to think clearly, let alone stay calm.
But here’s what helped:
As my baby wailed, I started repeating this phrase to myself, quietly and calmly:
Millions of babies before him have cried.
Millions of babies before him survived and were okay.
Millions of babies before him have cried.
Millions of babies before him survived and were okay.
I repeated it again and again, letting the words sink in. Slowly, my body softened, my breathing slowed, and my mind cleared. I could feel myself coming back into balance.
This mantra wasn’t just a string of words—it reminded me I wasn’t alone. It connected me to the bigger human experience, something larger than the momentary stress.
You can adapt this mantra to fit any situation:
Millions of humans before me have been in this spot before me.
Millions of humans before me have survived and were okay.
It’s a simple way to calm your body and reconnect with the truth: You’ll get through this.
Repeating a soothing phrase activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of your body that says, “It’s safe to relax.” Research shows that practices like mindfulness, meditation, and mantras can lower cortisol (the stress hormone) and help you feel grounded.
Next time life throws you a curveball, give this mantra a try. It’s amazing how just a few words can help you shift from panic to peace—and take the next best step.
I’d love to hear your thoughts:
Hit reply and let me know—I’d love to learn from you. And if you try this practice, I can’t wait to hear how it works for you.
With patience and calm,
Erin
P.P.S. Sometimes it feels like mantras don’t work. Don’t worry. I gotchu. If it’s not working try this.
