This is my favorite time of year to go for walks.
The light is changing. The leaves are turning, and the sun hits differently. Early fall always feels like a warm hug.
I’m trying to stay in the moment and enjoy it.
But I can feel another season coming too.
I know, it’s a little soon to talk about the holidays but they aren’t far off. 🙈
Before you know it, the calendar fills up, routines change and for me, with two kids birthday’s, Thanksgiving, an anniversary and then December gift giving and travel, there’s a lot comin’!
Don’t get me wrong. So much of it is joyful. And some of it is exhausting.
So I started to worry about my walks in particular.
Will I still make time for them?
Or will walking be the first thing to quietly slip off the list? Especially if it’s cold!
Inside The Movement, my members keep telling me the same thing: they want to walk more, and they want it to be something they just do.
They know the big impact walking has on their minds and their bodies. But, they don’t always make time for it, especially if life gets busy.
So, here’s what I keep coming back to.
If you build a sweet little habit for yourself now, it will be there when you really need it.
At the moment, there’s still a little breathing room. So if walking is something you want to do more of, this is the time to let it become part of you. Not another thing on the to-do list, but something you actually look forward to. Something that’s yours.
Because when walking is already part of who you are, a busy season doesn’t decide whether you walk. It just changes how long or how often you do it.
Here’s my invitation. Before the busy season gets here, decide what your walk looks like when the calendar is full.
Not your ideal walk. Your busy day walk.
Ten minutes after school drop-off. Around the block before dinner. A few minutes on your walking pad or treadmill after the kids go to bed.
Pick it now, while there’s still space, so when life gets loud there’s nothing to decide.
This is not about “getting your steps in” either [First Name]. It’s about returning to yourself, gently and often, even on the days where life is full.
Mine is a quick few extra blocks after I take my daughter to school in the mornings.
Now, I’m curious about you.
Do you wish you walked more? And if so, what usually gets in the way?
A sentence or two is plenty. I read every one. I can’t wait to hear from you.
Love,
Erin
