The Mantra That Changed Everything

How To Decide What You Want

There Is No Wagon To Fall From. Only Life!

When was the last time you were in the presence of some serious greatness? That you were able to bathe in someone else’s greatness. I mean someone who makes you practically weep they are so damn good. Today I am sharing why you might want to get yourself there… quickly.

Last week I had the opportunity to see what has become one of my all time favorite bands, Barnaby Bright.  They happen to be pals as well, so it makes it double special.

Becky and Nathan Bliss are a gorgeous husband and wife singer songwriting duo, who no doubt are a hop skip and a jump away from gracing you with their presence on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. When you see them, remember that you heard it here.

(Side note, are you as happy as I am going to bed these days knowing Jimmy Fallon will laugh you to sleep? Just. So. Good.)

Aside from Becky’s angelic and powerful voice and Nathan’s top-notch guitar skills, the pair takes the stage with such captivating presence and power; you can’t not be pulled into their vortex.

Every note, every sound is sweet perfection.

To put it simply, they are living in their greatness.

And here is where I am going to sound really selfish and then give you a tip.

Watching and witnessing them, elevated me and helped me tap into my own potential. It lifted me out of what has felt like the long winter blues. I was not just transported because of the music, better yet, I was transformed.

When someone is at the top of their game, whether it is singing, acting, speaking, teaching, writing or telling jokes, don’t pass up the opportunity to be in the same space to witness it.

I beg of you.

Go. Be in the presence of magnificence.

Why? Because…

The vibration of these places is elevated.

There is a quickening of clarity.

There is a force field of love.

These rooms are filled with transparency and grace.

It is likely where God is twinkling.

It is often where Angels are playing.

You will feel it and better yet, it WILL all rub off on you.

You will be bathed in the light that emanates from that person’s skin. And you will feel BETTER.

And it’s not because they are better than you, or special, or a guru. Hardly.

It is simply because when they are doing what they are simply so gifted at, it’s almost like the sea parts.

They step into an ease that is palpable, while stepping out of all the B.S. mental stuff that often weighs us down day to day.

This is not to say they won’t be greeted by their own doubt and fear when they step off the stage or out of the room, oh contraire, they are mere living mortals like you and I.

But for those few moments or hours where they are doing what they are so incredibly gifted at, they are elevated to a godly status.

Being a bystander of this splendor on a regular basis provides long-term benefits.

It gives you something to aspire to, dream about, remember and maybe even emulate in your own unique way.

It is in rooms like these that you will get your best ideas, let go of past hurts and be filled with overwhelming love.

So I ask you, when was the last time you were in the presence of greatness?

Is there a person, teacher or artist who you know just HAS IT? Who lifts you up? Who lights you up? LEAVE A COMMENT BELOW and let me know.

It could be anyone from Beyonce to Amma to your local yoga teacher who just has a gift.

I say by all means, seek them out. Humble yourself. Get up in there. Become a little bit of a groupie. It’s ok. You will still be cool.

Your cells will be transformed and your heart opened.

And that is the coolest sip of Kool-aid any of us could drink.

Here’s to all the magnificent sparkling greatness out there, just waiting for us to drink it in.

Love,
Erin

Hi Erin! Thank you so much for this blogpost, it’s landed so in time! I have recently got so much frustrated by witnessing that I tend to stop communicating with my old friends, whom I seem to have outgrown in a sense, we do not have common topics any more, I am kind of the happy girl and they are same old same old complaining people, you know. Just a couple of days ago my friend told me that I stopped communicating with her since now she does not fall into my “category of happy people”. On the one hand, I feel bad to lose my old friends. On the other, my heart is longing to be surrounded by high-vibrational happy people. There are so many coaches I am inspired by myself as a coach, I wish I could one day get to know them personally, you included of course. How do you think is it right that after a long journey of self-development you might just lose interest in your old friends for the sake of “the right people” you are inspired by?

    Hi Erin!
Love, love, love this post! Thank you so much. It was perfect timing for me as well. I have recently been journaling about fostering my own new tribe of like minded friends. I want to surround myself with people who light me up and are high vibe. Darla’s comments really resonate with me as I too have been finding myself less and less interested in my old friends and the drama and disfunction. I too have spent so much time on my journey of self development and have finally reached the point where It’s time to move on and surround myself with all thing positve. I’m not saying I will give up my old friends completely but they will not be a part of my day to day life.
Thank you again and again. I love your emails and your workouts. You are an inspiration to me!

…I would love to have a friend like Meghan Curry in my life 🙂 pure inspiration. Whenever I see her yummie-gummi-body I just HAVE to move too!! love her: instagram.com/meghancurried

Hi Erin! Thanks for your vibe and positive influence, always! The first person I thought of is Elizabeth “Betsy” Cooper, a professional dancer. She has created a movement methodology where muscular strength and classical lines of ballet converge with the emancipating movement of modern dance. It has been a few years since Betsy was on the East Coast, but when she was, I took modern dance technique classes from her and sometimes was in class with her as a fellow student. She currently serves as Divisional Dean for the Arts at Univ. of Washington in Seattle and is also a dancer in the company “Seattle Dance Project.” Betsy isn’t just a remarkable dancer and artist. She is an inspiring person. To be in the same room with her, oh! I can’t even find words to describe it. You’ve said it better than I ever will.

    Thanks for your post, Erin!

I just love this post. Great job! Tony Robbins is someone that truly inspires me and when I am one of his live events his presence is magical. He just has a gift and is infectious. Oh, I LOVE Beyonce as well!

  6. While reading this I forgot for a moment that I was sitting in my room and felt transported to the space I enter when attending one of our business conferences. I am with a Direct Sales company and have absolutely fallen in love with being in that space you so aptly described. It is so awesome to be surrounded by people who have achieved what you are working towards and they are open, kind, sharing and helpful toward you. I drive 1 hr+ once a month to experience it on a smaller scale at our monthly meeting. When I started this business, I thought, I really don’t need more ‘friends’, I have a hard time keeping up with the ones I have. But this group of folks have turned out to be more than friends. They feel like a family to me. We laugh, cry and celebrate each other and help each other to the level of greatness that each one wants to reach. I am definitely a bigger and better person because of my interaction with them. My ‘chocolate family’ provides me with that buoying presence. And YES!, it is a magical place to be.

Great post. Sadly, I had to think a bit. But I really wanted to respond to your call to action. So I worked out and realized its a gal named Kay Cannon. She is an old friend who I lost contact with when she got real successful. Not out of resentment but because I assumed she was to busy. She has gone on to have a tremendous career and I love her work. Still Facebook friends with her. Not sure what I will do with this thought but I am happy to have thought of her and that her wonderful qualities still resonate with me.

  8. Britt says:

    Hi Erin,
What a great post…I really thought about what you were asking and one name came to mind, my Zumba teacher Cassie. She has this energy that captivates me from the moment the music starts. For 2 hours a week I think of nothing but dance moves and how I am dripping with sweat having the time of my life. It is truly 2 hours a week of me time. Cassie is following all her dreams and she has motivated me to follow some of mine. It is funny how someone I see twice a week for an hour at a time could impact my life so much. I am literally addicted to class and get upset if I have to miss it. Cassie’s zumba class is my happy place, I can come into class in a terrible mood and leave uplifted and centered.

  9. Tanya says:

    Hi Erin,

I love this post so much because it reminds me of something my Inspired Work teacher, Kiley, (who tops my list of Inspirational Jedi) told me during one of our first classes: We admire people because we see ourselves in them — our true, shining, you can’t stop the beat, brighter than a thousand suns selves. When we surround ourselves with people who are connecting to the jet stream of greatness, we get to go along for the ride, and get a glimpse of our own greatness in the process.

Other than Kiley, people who top this list for me include Katy Perry, P!nk, Tegan + Sara, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Louis C.K., Maria Bamford and my amazing friends Niki, who writes smart, clever + funny YA stories + Ricky (aka Stewdippin) who makes “fun nerdy videos every week” on YouTube.

And of course, I feel this connection every time I do one of your Shrink Session videos!!!

    Lotsa love,

    Tanya

  10. Can I bathe in your greatness then, Erin?

  11. Judy says:

    Love this!

  12. Linda says:

I have had the pleasure of seeing Barnaby Bright twice and just love their music and presence as well! And I completely agree wth the concept of bathing in other’s greatness. Spot on sister! 👍😍🎶🎼😁
