How To Decide What You Want

There Is No Wagon To Fall From. Only Life!

I’ve always dreamed of living near the water. Lo and behold, our current house is about 5 minutes from the beach.

This means late afternoon sandcastle making and sunset swims with my daughter are now a regular thing.

The other day, I looked around the beach and saw parents, kids, couples, and individuals of all ages.

And wouldn’t you know, almost every single person was smiling.

Sun. Water. Freedom.

It’s a perfect recipe for feeling good.

It made me realize that there are so few places in life where you see almost everyone expressing happiness, ease, or joy in some capacity.

(A dance floor with music is another one of those places.)

And while it feels good to be in those places, surrounded by wonderful things, I also know we don’t have to wait until we are in the perfect place in order to feel that way.

I want you to try a simple exercise.

Right now.

As you’re reading this, curl the corners of your lips up ever so slightly.

That’s right. Just the corners of your lips.

Don’t release it.

Hold it right there.

Now, turn the corners up a little more. That’s it.

Keep holding.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, you’re smiling a gentle, soft smile.

And the longer I hold it, the better I feel. Just like when I was on the beach the other day.

The best part, it’s free.

It can be done anywhere, anytime.

I invite you to try this when you are out for a walk, standing in line at the grocery store, or even when your child is throwing a tantrum! Talk about lightening the mood.

Never underestimate the power of this simple gesture. It’s amazing what bringing a smile to your face can do for your mood and outlook.
