Face Your Fears

I took my daughter to Great America the other week. She had the best time! But, there was one kiddy rollercoaster she wasn’t so sure of.

She wanted to go on it, but she was also afraid.

I watched as she wrestled with some all-too-familiar feelings with fear. Should I? Shouldn’t I?

Should I do the thing that brings me fear? Oooh scary! If I don’t do it, will I miss out? Oooh, uncomfortable!

And what about this idea that life really starts at the end of my comfort zone? (More on that thought below!)

Ultimately, the discomfort of her fear was too great and she chose not to do it. But, she quickly recovered and went on to enjoy the next few rides that felt more appropriate for her.

When it comes to facing your fears, we often face the same roller coaster of emotions. (Pun intended.)

But, I have come to accept the ultimate truth… there is no right or wrong when it comes to doing what scares you.

If you do it, you will learn and grow in new ways. If you don’t do it, you will learn and grow in different ways.

(And our “WHY” changes, just like the seasons of our life!)

For example, let’s say you’re thinking about making an investment in a new program. The ticket price is high, and it will take a significant amount of time to go through the materials. You’re afraid because of both the time and financial commitment.

If your current “why” is about spending as much time as possible with your family while your children are young, then perhaps saying no is not just about being afraid. It’s about being in tune with where you are and knowing what you can truly handle at this time.

However, maybe your current “why” is about personal expansion and growth. You might feel you need something to help fulfill your soul’s purpose and that by investing time and money into a program, you’ll be bringing more to your family dynamic. In this example, it might be important to move through your fear and do that program, since it’s in alignment with your “why.”

As you can see from both these examples, there is no right or wrong way to go!

But, this idea that life only happens outside of your comfort zone is BS to me.

Life happens no matter where you are.

There will be lessons to learn and opportunities for growth whether you push yourself or not.

Certainly, there is a time to leap without seeing the net. (Knowing it always appears!) And, there is also a time to pass on big, bold opportunities. This doesn’t mean you are playing small.

By taking time to deeply contemplate your “why” and anchoring it into your being, the easier it becomes to navigate the roller coaster of emotions that arises when facing our fears.

If finding your “why” seems daunting or confusing, I’m going to share something that will help you in just a few weeks. So stay tuned!

Meanwhile, I invite you into contemplation around something that is scaring you. Is NOW the time to do it? Or is now the time to wait? What’s most important to you right now? What’s not?

Remember, you can’t go wrong. Only forward!

_______________ What’s New _______________

Soul Strolls are very popular inside The Movement and we recently released this one to help you get in touch with your “want” muscles and craft a vision for your future self. We use mantras to help the mind and body accept that wanting is more than ok and that we can rise up to meet that which we desire.

Here’s what some of our members had to say:

“LOVE LOVE LOVED it!! My new favourite for sure! My daughter and I were dancing and saying all the mantras out loud, thanks Erin”

“I love this, the beat, the mantras, the cadence. I love it!”

“I just did this new soul stroll by dancing around my house. (I am not a dancer. I generally just walk but this just had me moving) I absolutely loved it and it’s exactly what I need right now.”

Check it out for yourself when you sign up for The Movement 7-day free trial!

Happy Strolling!

Love,
Erin
