Louise Hay Was An Angel in My Ear

In 2008, I found a lump in my breast.

After a visit to a doctor who had a rather unfortunate bedside manner, she told me with a dry and rather apathetic look on her face “Well, it could be cancer. Or it could not be. Let’s find out.”

I guess you could say she wasn’t into sugar coating things.

I had to wait two weeks to get a biopsy done and then another 2-3 days for results. (Don’t worry, right after that experience, I switched doctors completely, because no woman should have to wait that long for an exam, especially when you have a very BIG family history of breast cancer in your family!)

Those two weeks were torturous. I was young. And afraid. And convinced I had cancer.

I couldn’t get out of my head, visualizing the worst case scenario over and over again.

But, there was ONE woman who supported me daily through this time. She was like my guardian angel.

She was caring.

She was kind.

She was compassionate.

She was wise.

She believed in the mind’s ability to calm, soothe and heal.

She believed you are not your past.

She believed that you are not your mother or your grandmother.

She believed that you have the ability to change the course of your life.

She believed you could heal your life.

She believed that loving yourself was the MOST powerful and important action to take every single day.

That woman was Louise Hay.

You are likely familiar with her work, but if you are not, Louise Hay was an advocate, an author, a friend, a visionary and in my opinion, the mother of all affirmations.

Her book, You Can Heal Your Life is one of the top-selling books in the entire world along with almost 20 of her other works, not including audios, meditations, card decks and more.

Louise was the founder of Hay House Publishing, who has published some of the greatest thought leaders of all time.

She touched and changed the lives of so, so many people, including mine.

If you haven’t yet heard, Louise passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday evening, at the age of 91.

I am so honored to be a part of the Hay House family, the place where my forthcoming book is being published.

I am deeply humbled to be a small part of her tremendous legacy. A legacy of love.

It was Louise who got me through those excruciating two weeks and gave me a confidence about myself and life that I couldn’t muster on my own during that time.

Twice a day, I would listen to THIS AUDIO.

And, it absolutely changed me, calmed me, helped to heal my mind and assuage my fear.

Luckily, everything turned out fine with my lump. I had been an avid reader of Louise’s books and all her authors’ books even before that incident. But this took me to a whole new level of respect, gratitude and appreciation.

Years later, I had the opportunity to meet Louise at a conference and share the impact she had on me.

Erin and Louise

It was like meeting a celebrity rolled into meeting your fairy godmother. Her presence alone was healing. Her voice soothing. Her eyes glistening. She truly was like an angel.

I will never forget that moment, after I told her about my mother having cancer and what I went through.

She looked me square in the eyes, as if we were the only two people in the room (there were hundreds) and she said, “Erin, you are not your mother. You create your own reality. Remember that. And love yourself.”

I know that many of you in this community have been touched by Louise, her books or books by authors she shared with the world.

In the comments, let me know how Louise Hay and her work touched your life. I love hearing your stories.

And at the very least, if you are going through any health challenges at the moment, I highly recommend you download the audio I used.

While it was created many years ago, the content still stands as I revisit it quite regularly.

Louise, you will be missed, but your words, your light, your love will live on in the hearts of millions.

With love,
Erin
